Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Soldiers Party

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a wide array of personalities, and a exciting storyline including divine entities, evil spirits, and sinister influences increasing in power within the urban setting.

Note: Key plot points for the third episode of this adventure are included.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

The latest chapter finished on a major cliffhanger and presented the premier party of characters who will separate from the central cast to begin their own adventure, distinct from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team consists of Teor (played by Travis), the agile character (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

Considering 13 cast members, it was clear from the start that keeping everyone at a single group would be impossible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Prelude, intertwining the characters’ stories before splitting into three distinct groups: Warriors, Strategists, and Questers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

Per the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for players who enjoy a traditionally charged battle-oriented story mode where non-violent answers are few and far between.

Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might seem mismatched, but the actions of the third episode demonstrate why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

First, the team knows exactly where to proceed after a brutal initial meeting with the enemy group.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose death started the story’s plot—used the enemy for his selfish purposes, breaking into the hidden lair, striking Thimble, and stealing all the powerful objects to dispose of.

Casimir then paid off his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, above the urban center, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each member has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, wants retribution.
  • Kattigan knows Timmony and warns that it is a dangerous place.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to eliminate Teor and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their status as important members in the influential clan could help the group enter places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, Teor vowed a life debt to The savior for his deliverance and will now follow him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the authorities that control the setting for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • The rogue and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and The cleric turned against the powerful family and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by the family.

This means them little choice but to head to the remote area in pursuit of Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

Based on the recent installment’s Cooldown, we find out that the combat party won’t be around next week, leaving the other eight participants to form the Explorers and Schemers parties.

Fans can anticipate learning which characters will be in which group in the season’s final introductory chapter, released on next week.
