Keely Hodgkinson Wraps Up Season with Victorious Display at Athlos Meet in NYC
The athlete achieved her personal best of 1:54.61 last year in London.
Keely Hodgkinson concluded her 800m campaign with a triumph at the women-only Athlos event in New York on Friday night.
{The reigning Olympic gold medallist, who secured bronze at the global championships recently, excelled in an outstanding win in 1:56.53 in what was only her sixth race in a season impacted by a hamstring injury.
Fellow Briton and global silver winner Georgia Hunter Bell took the runner-up spot again in 1:58.33, while St Vincent's Shafiqua Maloney (1:58.57) claimed third.
"I've barely raced this season so it was likely easier for me to compete and want to give it something," stated the 23-year-old.
"The atmosphere at the event is incredible so it was extremely enjoyable."
The female-exclusive event filled Icahn Stadium in its second year, introducing a party atmosphere to conventional athletics, with musical performances and special crowns substituting traditional winners' medals.
The 23-times tennis major winner Serena W., who is married to the founder of Athlos Alexis O., was on hand to present the winners with their crowns.
Previous champions took home sixty thousand dollars (forty-four thousand six hundred and three pounds) - one of the largest prize purses in track and field.
The event also attracted several top athletes, as Kenya's three-time Olympic gold medallist and world record holder Faith Kipyegon triumphed in the mile race, finishing in 4:17.78.
The US Brittany B., the 200m bronze winner from last year's Paris Olympics, won the 100m and 200m double.
