Prince William Plans to Join UN Climate Conference in South America
Prince William plans to participate in the COP30 climate summit in Brazil next month, as announced by the royal household.
The father and son duo made a joint appearance on Thursday night at a event leading up to the environmental conference, which is planned for in the northern Brazilian city of Belem.
The King and Prince were in attendance at the museum gathering, marking an unusual joint appearance at a climate summit preparatory event arranged together with the British authorities.
Environmental Advocacy Commitment
The King has been a longstanding advocate of environmental conservation - and the Prince of Wales has inherited the mission, with his own climate innovation awards, which will be held in Brazil ahead of the UN meeting.
Royal sources have characterized Prince William's attendance at the next COP as taking on an significant responsibility in "environmental negotiations".
Previous Activities
The King and Prince of Wales, arriving together in the official car, were greeted attendees such as environmentalists, scientists, climate change campaigners, foreign representatives and government officials.
This engagement featured addresses in concert with President Emmanuel Macron of France and other world leaders at the Marine Economy Conference in Monaco in recent months.
Environmental Prize Link
The COP30 summit will dovetail with the prince's own climate innovation prizes, which will conclude in Rio de Janeiro the previous day he joins the COP summit on November 6th.
Last week the prince described the award contenders as "modern-day pioneers".
Monarch's Environmental Record
The monarch has been a prominent presence at past COP meetings, delivering the inaugural speech in the United Arab Emirates for the 28th Conference of Parties, including the statement: "Our responsibility is to protect the world we inhabit".
"Throughout my life I've dedicated a substantial portion of my life trying to raise awareness about the survival risks challenging our world over global warming, global temperature increases and biodiversity loss," the sovereign addressed participants.
