In “It’s a Deal”, a flashback discloses that popular character Alastor the Radio Demon was a serial killer in his human life. Being aware he was destined for Hell, he made contact with the afterlife in advance to secure a strong position there. The charismatic leader, who leads the cannibal faction in Hell, vowed Alastor he would become “the most powerful Sinner in Hell” in return for his soul.
This prompts an important query: How is this character sufficiently strong to elevate Alastor over every other Demonic Sinners?
“The Rosie and Alastor deal is the initial building block in a much bigger story that involves so much, leading into the third season,” the creator explains. “Clearly that is a perfect question: How is she so strong? The answer could be various factors, but the answer is in season three. I am thrilled for fans to see it.”
There’s no telling the duration the audience will have to wait for Hazbin Hotel’s third season. The studios have green-lit seasons 3 and 4, but the creator often remarks that animated production is a time-consuming endeavor, and later seasons are undated. Still, she says withholding on specific information is an important part of maintaining the second season's focus where it belongs.
“The difficulty of any agreement with infernal beings, or stories that have enigmas, is giving the audience just enough information to be like, Something's up here, and then revealing that gradually, and letting that be satisfying,” she says. “So I'm very excited.”
Questions Answered in Season 3
The showrunner promises that season 3 will address the queries followers have been posing, such as why Rosie commanded Alastor to vanish for a seven-year period, which diminished his power in Hell.
“The whole seven years, and the pacts these humans are making, and all that — it contributes to a bigger narrative,” she says.
In the meantime, the origin story episode offers a further look into how the main characters of Sinner Demons appeared as as humans, following after viewing another character's Victorian-era human form in episode 2. She explains that a lot of thought was put into the visual creation of these forms.
“The mortal forms of these personas hold great significance,” she says. “They range from appearing really different from their infernal version to seeming very similar. With Pentious, the initial design we see, there was some internal discussion within the team between choosing a design that symbolizes the personality, as opposed to selecting an option that's historically correct. We leaned toward creating a design that just felt like it was him.”
She mentions the biggest debate over the mortal look of Pentious was his lengthy locks: “We were like, ‘No one typically had extended hair of that style in Victorian-era London.’ But at the same time, we believe the outline is so important, and we also just felt he looked good. We were like, ‘This just feels right.’ We sort of provided the rationale that he's a hermit, so he just allowed his hair to lengthen. So there is always a solution. As we create the human versions of these personas […] it is a very enjoyable process to explore and figure out. I'm excited for people to view additional of what the human forms look like.”
