Climate Experts Applaud Royal Attendance

Sustainability leaders applauded the royal's presence. A sustainability expert commented that it would enhance what is expected to be a difficult summit, where world consensus on new targets for lowering climate pollutants is essential.

"Is Prince William presence at Cop a publicity move? Certainly. But it doesn't imply it's a poor decision," the expert commented. "The summit has often been as much about so-called 'optics' as it is about discussions. The Prince's commitment will likely inspire other leaders to engage, and will capture international press."

"I believe HRH is fully aware that by participating, he'll draw countless of attention to the summit. In an period when climate impacts are growing, but press attention is declining, any action that raises awareness should be celebrated."

Royal Attendance at Previous Cops

The monarch has attended earlier UN summits, but will not attend in this one.

Support from Climate Thinktanks

A leader from an environmental thinktank commented: "All hands on deck – and every high-profile person like the Prince of Wales, in attendance assisting make the case for the difficult job that must be done, is probably a positive development."

"[King Charles was in his previous role when he participated in the Glasgow summit and helped to galvanise talks. I don't believe it necessarily needs both of them to attend."

Prime Minister's Decision Still Unconfirmed

The UK's leader has not yet said whether they will participate in the conference, to which all global leaders are invited, with many planning to join. The leader was heavily criticised by influential environmental voices for seeming hesitant on the decision recently.

"Global officials should be in Belém for Cop30. Participation is not merely symbolic, it is a demonstration of responsibility. This is the opportunity to secure enhanced country pledges and the funding to deliver them, especially for resilience" to the impacts of the global warming.
"International observers is observing, and posterity will record who showed up."
